Create a compelling
Product Vision
The fundamentals of
Product Vision and Mission
The product mission states what you are trying to achieve, while the vision describes what the world looks like when you have achieved it. A compelling product vision is not just inspiring and empowering but also directional. The vision and mission need to be rooted in a deep understanding of the business, customers and market.
- A Product Vision Sprint consists of preparation work done by the team and a one day workshop.
- The goal of the preparation work is for the team to gather knowledge about the current state of the company and product, which will be used when defining the new vision, mission and strategic narrative.
- During the one day workshop, the team works together to come up with the new vision, mission and strategic narrative, which are the main outcomes of the workshop.
- Having a clear vision, mission and strategic narrative helps teams to create a meaningful product strategy, prioritise initiatives and work towards a common goal.
A meaningful Product Vision
In order to work long-term, the product vision and mission need to be rooted in a deep understanding of the business and its purpose, the customers and their needs and the market and potential competitors.

What makes a good North Star?
Create your Product Vision
“If you want to build a ship, don’t drum up the men to gather wood, divide the work, and give orders. Instead, teach them to yearn for the vast and endless sea.” – Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
As Marty Cagan states in this article, “the product vision is one of the most important and highest-leverage tools for tech-powered product companies, especially for those trying to do product at scale..” This is why we too believe it is of great importance that companies have a strong vision, mission and strategic narrative in place.

Tool recommendations
Ultimately, the choice of design tool depends on the specific needs of the designer and the project at hand. Each tool has its strengths and weaknesses, and designers must consider factors such as cost, ease of use, and collaboration features when selecting the best tool for their needs.
