Product Discovery Assessment

Introduce insights-driven frameworks in your team

Insight-driven teams know how
to build better products

Does your team identify with any of the following?

  • The data you collect just end up as numbers in stakeholder presentations
  • You collect feedback from users, but it isn’t used strategically to improve the product
  • You work in a siloed organisation where different roles rarely talk or collaborate
  • You build feature after feature with no discernable effect on your pNPS or other metrics

Many product teams collect data from a multitude of sources, like pNPS, product usage, user research, and other channels. However, many teams don’t have processes or knowledge in place to leverage the data and turn it into actionable insights, using it to improve the product long-term. In addition, the insights are rarely connected to the product vision, roadmap or business goals.

This is why we’ve created the Product Discovery Self-assessment - to empower your team to leverage data and turn it into actionable insights, in order to make better product decision.

What are insights?

What are insights?

Insights are actionable knowledge based on data you’ve gathered about your users.

Here’s an example:
Through their product analytics, a team notices that users dislike the experience of a particular task in the product. The churn rate for users that perform this task regularly is 30% higher than other users.

With this data, the team has gained insight:
If they make the task easier to perform, they could reduce churn.

Gather

To gain insights we first need to gather data. The easiest place to start is within the product.

For example:
  • Measure pNPS, CES and CSAT with InMoment to understand how well your product meets customer and user needs and how happy they are with the product
  • Track behavioural data and usage with Snowplow to gain an even deeper understanding of user behavior in your product
  • Engage your customers and users through user interviews and other methods to better understand the users’ needs, wishes and expectations

Utilize

Once you have new insights in place, it is time to put them to good use.

For example:
  • Integrate insights into the product development process. Use the insights as input in your sprint planning (and make sure to follow up on the outcome in the sprint retrospective!)
  • Run an experiment such as a Design Sprint to quickly validate hypotheses with users
  • Inform product strategy with insights based on user behaviour and arguments grounded in data

Once you have gotten started, it is time to build a habit.

We know that insights-driven teams build better products. Make a habit of continuous discovery in order to improve the product long-term and get closer to achieving the vision for your product.

Not only does it provide teams with clear focus, but above all it makes sure that teams deliver value to their customers and users, instead of chasing vanity metrics.
